Customer Reviews: Great Mirror July 5, 2010 Danny Willard (San Angelo, Texas) I had previously installed a rear view mirror comparable to this one, but less expensive. Auto dimming circuit burned out in two years. When I received the Gentex, I discovered I did not have to run new wiring through the car. The pins at the plug in the old mirror were the same pins as the new mirror. I just had to remove the pins from the old plug and insert them into the plug of the new Gentex mirror. Everything works perfectly, -- the auto dimming, compass and the temperature.
Great!!! March 22, 2010 ATALOPE (Southeast Kansas) I took this and had it installed at a local accessory dealer as it was put into a 2006 Ford Mustang Convertible with Remote Start and I didn't want to mess with moving the remote start wires and the headliner on the convertible. They had the job done in less then an hour and said it was a very easy install. All the parts were included and are thinking of including this item as one of their regular products to offer.
When your car dealer won't do it! March 20, 2010 David H. Fong (Virginia City, NV, USA) Gentex GENK31 Auto-Dimming Mirror with Compass, Temperature and MapLights (Factory Harness)
This mirror is usually only available on the Limited Edition of cars, SUVs, and trucks. If you want it because you had it before, your dealer may not want to install it. They are not experienced in rewiring and it takes them a long time to do. The manufacturer may also claim that installation of said mirror may violate your warranty. Ha, Ha, Ha
If your car or truck is new, like my off-road Nissan Frontier, it will have a standard wedge rearview mirror mount. The Gentex has a standard wedge mount that will easily slip into your car/truck's mirror mount. A auto stereo shop will do this for about $125 with you supplying the mirror. ( They may not want to do it if they have to glue on a new mount for an older car.)
I love the mirror since I live in a mountainous region where direction and ambient temperature are important
Dimming Mirror February 6, 2010 jaxmike (Jacksonville, FL USA) This is a nice unit. Exactly like the one from the car dealer. Installs very easy.
Mirror seems to have the correct temperature. February 2, 2010 Teresa Fields (Edmond, OK) I got this because my car was a fleet vehicle and did not come with any indication of outside temperature. This mirror seems to be very accurate so I have a better knowledge of what the road conditions will be in the winter. Love it!
